The Health of Lake Simcoe

Our Limnologist, Dr. Brian Ginn, presented the top 3 stressors to Lake Simcoe to Honda Canada, in support of their donation to the new Nature Centre at Scanlon Creek.

The Chippewas of Georgina Island in Lake Simcoe have developed a climate adaptation plan that is serving as a model for communities across Ontario. The First Nation received funding for a three-year climate study in 2012 and has since been collecting the memories and observances of elders. Like many communities, Georgina Island is struggling with the effects of climate change today. Milder winters mean the community's ferry runs longer and the lake ice is weaker, both of which have ripple effects throughout the island. View TVO's Climate Watch Short to learn more.

Meet the Lake Doctor

Learn more about the issues facing Lake Simcoe from our limnologist Dr. Ginn, the Lake Doctor! Joining him in this series are Rob Wilson, the "Fyshician", and Captain of the Hexagenia (our research vessel), Ray Bolton. Meet the team and learn about Climate Change, Weeds on the Waterfront, and Plankton.
