Annual General Meeting: Collaboration Key to Environmental Protection

Lake Simcoe watershed – January 27, 2023 – At its 72nd Annual General Meeting, Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority board members and guests heard from special guest Jason Sheldon, Executive Vice President, Land at The Remington Group and Chair of the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD).

During his presentation, Mr. Sheldon stressed the importance of collaboration between the building and development industry and conservation authorities as the province ushers in new rules to increase housing supply over the next decade. “New home construction can co-exist with environmental protection,” said Mr. Sheldon, as he confirmed the association’s confidence in the expertise and leadership of Authority staff to help realize sustainable communities into the future.

“I agree with Mr. Sheldon,” said Rob Baldwin, the Authority’s Chief Administrative Officer. “It’s critical that our organization keeps the lines of communication with the industry open. It’s through collaboration and consultation that we’ll be more likely to help this government achieve its housing targets. Working together, we can ensure that the environmental health of all our communities is kept top-of-mind.”

Mr. Baldwin went on to also highlight staff’s achievements throughout 2022, sharing a year-in-review video compilation. To view the 2022 Year-In-Review video, the metrics and infographic, please visit: www.lsrca.on.ca/annual-reports

Wayne Emmerson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Municipality of York, and Chair of the Conservation Authority’s Board of Directors, highlighted the Authority’s accomplishments over the past four years, as he acknowledged and thanked outgoing board members for their contributions and service.

As part of the 2023 opening business, new board members were welcomed and an election for the Chair and Vice Chair positions took place. York Region Chairman Wayne Emmerson and Bradford Councillor Peter Ferragine were re-elected to their respective posts.

Chair Emmerson thanked board members for their continued confidence in him, noting his pride in chairing an organization that, despite the current challenges, continues to excel in its delivery of watershed protection. Councillor Ferragine was equally pleased to continue in his role as Vice Chair and looks forward to the coming year ahead.
