​​Retrofitting Existing Development

Low Impact Development (LID) practices can be applied to new development, redevelopment, or as retrofits to existing development. LID has been adapted to a range of land uses from high density ultra-urban settings to low density development.

Ideal sites for LID retrofit projects include:

  • Road Right-of-Ways
  • Industrial and Commercial Lands
  • Residential Lands
  • Public Lands (municipal facilities, parks, schools, places of worship)

Implementing sustainable LID practices on existing development helps to enhance how stormwater is managed in older areas built before modern stormwater controls. LID can support sustainability targets, address flood mitigation, improve communities and show commitment to the local environment.

Residential
