
"It's no secret the Marsh's peat soils have a high level of organic matter, 40-80%, and really sponge up water and nutrients. This is very different than the 'highland' soils in other parts of Ontario with 1- 6% organic matter.
Too much drainage and the quick decomposition of organic matter leads to shrunken peat soils that are more prone to erosion."
