LSRCA now accepting nominations for annual Conservation Awards

Newmarket, ON – April 27, 2016 – Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) is calling for nominations for the 35th annual Conservation Awards ceremony, taking place at Madsen's Garden & Greenhouse and Banquet Centre on November 3rd this year.

"We know there are many incredible people and organizations in all 20 municipalities throughout our watershed who are going that extra mile to support our environment," said Aurora Mayor Geoffrey Dawe, Chair of LSRCA. "We want to hear about them so we can recognize and celebrate their efforts."

Eligible nominations are based on environmental contributions or conservation projects completed by individuals, community groups, or businesses, within the Lake Simcoe watershed between August 2015 and July 2016. The Awards program also includes two special categories of distinction: The Ernie Crossland Young Conservationist Award and the George R. Richardson Conservation Award of Honour.

Past award recipients have completed projects such as school-yard greening, installing large wildflower gardens, urban rain gardens, naturalizing shorelines, large-scale tree plantings and installation of turtle crossing signs.

Not sure if a project is in the Lake Simcoe watershed or eligible for an award? We can help! Visit www.LSRCA.on.ca to view a map of the watershed and to learn more about eligibility and nomination requirements. Or call LSRCA and ask to speak with Maria Leung.

Don't delay. Nominate someone today at www.LSRCA.on.ca. The deadline for nominations is Friday, August 12, 2016.

It is the mission of the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority to collaborate, protect and restore the Lake Simcoe watershed with innovative research, policy and action.
