Join LSRCA and special guests for a unique outdoor experience

NEWMARKET, ON – April 27, 2015 – LSRCA staff are taking VIPs for a unique field trip experience. Confirmed guests include Geoffrey Dawe, Mayor of Aurora and LSRCA Chair, and Scott Macpherson, Oro-Medonte Councillor and LSRCA board member. Together with others, they will explore the world of an urban creek, Kidd's Creek in Sunnidale Park, Barrie on Thursday, April 30, 2015 from 9am – 11am.

Of all the creeks in Barrie, Kidd's Creek has the most challenges, but it also has some of the best opportunities for restoration! Through LSRCA expert guidance, participants will see firsthand how we evaluate local creek health and what we can do to restore it.

VIPs in attendance will get the chance to learn about and participate in:

  1. recognizing the very real but mostly unseen wildlife habitat present in the city of Barrie

  2. helping us catch and study insects that are indicators of a healthy stream

  3. taking water samples to measure chloride and other levels

  4. using bioengineering techniques, such as planting willow stakes, to address stream bank erosion

This two-hour, 4-station tour is a condensed version of an interactive high school program that will be occurring at the same time. The entire experience will provide you with unique photo opportunities as younger and older learners come together to engage in conservation and learning.

Please note this is an outdoor activity spread out across 1.5 km. Dress for the weather.

It is the mission of the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority to collaborate, protect and restore the Lake Simcoe watershed with innovative research, policy and action.
