Conservation Authority succeeds despite 2020 challenges
Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority reviews 2020 highlights
Lake Simcoe watershed – January 25, 2021 – At its 70th Annual General Meeting, Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) board members and guests heard from LSRCA's expert staff about the many accomplishments throughout 2020.
“I want to congratulate and thank staff for their perseverance, and for their ability to adapt and stay positive through 2020," said Rob Baldwin, Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority CAO. “While we were ensuring that our staff remained safe and healthy through the pandemic, we didn't allow COVID 19 to prevent us from also caring for the health of our watershed, and the proof is in the many successes we achieved throughout 2020."
Staff shared presentations on the health of Lake Simcoe rivers and streams, the top 10 environmental restoration projects across the watershed and the enhancements in some of our most popular conservation areas.
Opening the business of 2021, election of the Chair and Vice Chair positions took place, with York Region Chairman Wayne Emmerson and Bradford Councillor Peter Ferragine being re-elected to their respective posts.
Chair Emmerson thanked board members for their confidence, noting that he is more resolved than ever to ensure that the conservation framework within Ontario remains strong and effective and that a bright future lays ahead for LSRCA. Councillor Ferragine noted that being the Vice Chair over the past year had been an honour, despite the trials that the pandemic introduced, and he considers it a privilege to continue to serve with the board and to work with LSRCA in the role.
CAO, Rob Baldwin also shared with guests a year-in-review video compilation showcasing some of the conservation authority's work and highlighted a new online Infographic containing metrics and outcomes from 2020.
