Conservation Authority Starts Plan on Newly Acquired Lands in Georgina

No Trespassing Signs and Fencing Being Erected

June 13, 2022, Georgina - The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority is asking the public to respect the no trespassing signs being posted along the boundaries of their newly acquired 890-acre property located in Georgina.a map showing the location and boundaries of Lake Simcoe Conservation Preserve

“This is the largest land transfer we’ve ever received, and we’re thrilled. Of course, our ownership comes with significant responsibility,” explains Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority Chief Administrative Officer, Rob Baldwin. “Our first order of business is to take an inventory of the natural features on the property and to develop a management plan to guide our custodianship in perpetuity. Given the property’s size, we expect this to be a multi-year project, so we are asking for the community’s patience and cooperation while we embark on this work,” Mr. Baldwin adds.

In the meantime, the “Lake Simcoe Conservation Preserve”, as it will be temporarily called until a permanent name is established, will be off limits to the public until the conservation authority can facilitate safe access, protect sensitive ecological species, and establish the property’s long-term future.

If members of the public are interested in being kept up to date on the status of the work on these new lands, they can sign up for updates on the Lake Simcoe Conservation Preserve webpage.

It is the mission of the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority to collaborate, protect and restore the Lake Simcoe watershed with innovative research, policy and action.
