Am I in a Regulated Area?
Regulated areas are those areas that are:
- subject to flooding
- wetlands or lands beside wetlands
- subject to shoreline erosion
- stable and unstable stream valleys
- watercourses
- slopes
- applicable setback areas
One of the key roles we play as a conservation authority is to regulate properties in vulnerable areas. We regulate any sort of changes to these landscapes for the benefit of all residents of our watershed. Would you want to spend thousands of dollars on a building only to have it flooded out a few months later? Would you want someone to build upstream from you and cause your property to flood as a result of their actions? We engage in regulations exactly to prevent this. We also protect the natural heritage features of our watershed (e.g. wetlands and other environmentally sensitive areas).
To find out if you live in a regulated area, we provide maps on our website that you can access to locate your property.
