Conservation Authority welcomes additional funding and program expansion
Newmarket, ON - January 8, 2013 - The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) is delighted with yesterday's announcement of funding to protect Lake Simcoe through the federal Lake Simcoe South-eastern Georgian Bay Clean Up Fund (LSGBCUF). This program is an expansion of the highly successful five-year, $30 million Lake Simcoe Clean Up Fund (LSCUF) which wrapped up in 2012.
"We continue to be impressed with the vision and leadership shown by the federal government through the additional funding announced today," said LSRCA Chair, Mayor Virginia Hackson. "This announcement gives us renewed vigour to carry on with the great work we've been able to complete under the LSCUF program and we look forward to working with Environment Canada to continue to ensure the best value for this new investment."
Through LSCUF, LSRCA completed 66 projects and received almost $6 million in funding. LSRCA was able to leverage those funds through its many partnerships and as a result, the actual project costs undertaken equaled more than $12 million. Details about the expanded LSGBCUF program, including eligibility requirements and the deadline for applications can be found online: http://www.ec.gc.ca/doc/eau-water/simcoe_e.html
