Final Phase of George Richardson Stormwater Management Pond Retrofit Project

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) and the Town of Newmarket, with funding support from the Federal government as part of Environment Canada’s Lake Simcoe Clean-up Fund (LSCUF), are proceeding with the final phase of retrofitting the stormwater management facility on Town-owned lands at George Richardson Park.

This work will involve upgrading the existing stormwater facility to meet the guidelines set out in the Ontario Ministry of the Environment's Stormwater Management Planning and Design Manual.

The specific improvements to be completed at the George Richardson Stormwater Management Pond include:

  • Excavation and the creation of a sediment forebay (permanent pool) and main cell;
  • Creation of a flow splitter to connect the by-pass stream channel;
  • Extensive planting and landscape restoration

A public open house to collect input regarding this project was held on July 14, 2009 at the Town of Newmarket Municipal offices. The first phase of construction, including the installation of a red sand filtration system, was completed in March 2010.

This final phase of construction will begin during the week of September 26, 2011 and is expected to be done on or about November 15, 2011. A community planting event is planned for the spring of 2012. For questions about this project, contact:
