Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority congratulates Province on Minister's Lake Simcoe Report

NEWMARKET – The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) congratulates the Ontario government and Minister of the Environment, John Wilkinson on the January 25th release of the first Minister's Annual Report on Lake Simcoe.

"The Report reflects the achievements of the Ministry of the Environment and its partners in the first year of the Plan," said Virginia Hackson, Chair of the LSRCA Board of Directors and Mayor of East Gwillimbury, one of LSRCA's partner municipalities. "We commend the Province for their diligence in getting the plan off the ground and demonstrating their commitment to the long-term health of Lake Simcoe."

Lake Simcoe's water quality and ecological health are under threat. Protecting Lake Simcoe is a shared responsibility, and the Plan to protect Lake Simcoe has everyone doing their part to protect the lake and its watershed.

"We are very excited with the progress that has been made in the first year of implementing the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan," said Gayle Wood, Chief Administrative Officer for Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority. "LSRCA has enjoyed a very productive partnership with the Province and the advancements that have been made highlight the importance of this Plan in the protection and restoration of the Lake Simcoe watershed, and the health of the communities within it."

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority's mission is to provide leadership in the restoration and protection of the environmental health and quality of Lake Simcoe and its watershed. In its 60th year, the LSRCA has worked to protect natural resources in the Lake Simcoe watershed in collaboration with community, municipal, and other government partners.
