The LSRCA Wants to Hear From You!
Conservation Authority Holding Public Meeting on Future of Holland Landing Conservation Area
NEWMARKET – Wednesday, March 16, 2010 – The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) would like to invite the public to an open meeting to share their vision for the future of the Holland Landing Conservation Area.
"We are about to begin the process of developing a new management plan for the Holland Landing Conservation Area," said Bill Thompson, LSRCA's Conservation Area Planner. "We are coming to this meeting without any specific proposals because we want to gather input from the community about what they envision for the future of the Conservation Area."
Neighbours, conservation area users and the conservation authority's partners in Holland Landing and East Gwillimbury are encouraged to attend the public consultation in the Simcoe Room of the Holland Landing Community Centre on Saturday, March 26 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
A steering committee, made up of members from the community, the Town of East Gwillimbury, York Region, the province and the conservation authority, will take the views and ideas expressed at the March 26th meeting into consideration as it develops the overall management plan for the conservation area. The completed and approved plan will then guide the future maintenance and development of the conservation area.
The Holland Landing Conservation Area is located immediately adjacent to Anchor Park in the village of Holland Landing. The Holland Landing Conservation Area was the first conservation area created by the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority through the acquisition of eight hectares in 1960. Since then, the conservation authority has worked to restore the property's environmental health by reducing erosion and reforesting the land.
After 60 years of leadership in environmental care, LSRCA now owns or manages more than 2,000 hectares of environmentally significant land. This land is managed as a means to support native plants and wildlife and to prevent and reduce contaminants, such as excess phosphorus, from jeopardizing the health of Lake Simcoe.
