In order to the promote the growth of saplings and the overall health of the Durham Regional Forest, the Conservation Authority will be conducting selective thinning during the course of the trail closures. Details of the affected areas will be posted on the trail map in the display panels in the main parking lot at Coyote Junction.

Warning signs will also be posted in the work area and trail users are asked to observe and pay attention to them for their own safety. The main tract of the Durham Regional Forest, at Concession 7 and Regional Road 21 is a popular recreational setting for people from Uxbridge, Pickering, Ajax, and Whitby. Hikers, mountain bikers, bird watchers and skiers use the extensive trail system in the forest year-round.
