Celebrate the first-ever Water Hour

Thursday, June 10, 2010

NEWMARKET - Water is the common tie that binds the Lake Simcoe watershed, and this Friday, June 11 at 8 p.m., the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) is calling on residents of the watershed to join with the world and participate in the first-ever Water Hour.

"Raise a glass of tap water and toast Lake Simcoe, or go for a swim in the lake," says Virginia Hackson, Chair of the LSRCA, offering just a few suggestions for ways to celebrate water. You can also visit www.waterhour.org to share your concern, commitment or the action you have taken to show your appreciation for the abundance of water in your life. Waterhour.org taps into the power of social networks like Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube by connecting us across the globe to create something wonderful. Follow Water Hour's Twitter stream @WaterHour and declare you care.

The conservation authority encourages everyone to stop and take time to act, enjoy, or protect our water. Picnic at the beach. Plant a tree or shrub along your shoreline. Install a rain barrel. Or just take a moment at 8 p.m. on Friday to reflect on what water means to you.
