Do you know a Watershed Hero? Nominate them for a Conservation Award

Thursday, March 11, 2010

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority is looking for “Watershed Heroes” who are working hard to improve our environment. You can shine the spotlight on these environmental role models by nominating them for one of seven conservation awards.

The awards are open to individuals, businesses or groups that are working towards improving the health and quality of the Lake Simcoe watershed. Work accomplished between August 2009 and July 2010 may qualify to win one of the following awards:

  • The Water Conservation Award recognizes individuals and groups who have improved local water quality.
  • Those who have completed a project that improves soil, vegetation and wildlife in the Lake Simcoe watershed may be honoured with the Soil Conservation Award.
  • The Education Award salutes those who have delivered an innovative environmental education program or service to schools, students or the community at large.
  • As reflected by its name, the Media Recognition Award is presented to members of the media for their on-going coverage and interest in environmental issues.
  • Our newest award category, the Ernie Crossland Young Conservationist Award, is presented to individuals or groups 30 years of age or younger who are involved in a significant leadership role in a conservation project or with a conservation-based group or organization.
  • Those who have implemented or financed a significant conservation project over the last year can be nominated for the Conservation Award of Merit
  • The George R. Richardson Award of Honour, recognizes those who have demonstrated a lifetime commitment to improving the environmental health of Lake Simcoe.

This year’s ceremony to honour award recipients is set to take place on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Madsen’s Greenhouse in Newmarket.

Anyone can make a nomination by completing our nomination form and sending it to Dana Eldon, Community Relations Specialist, by Friday, July 16,2010.
