Conservation Authority AGM: A Celebration of Excellence

January 26, 2010

At its annual general meeting on January 22, the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) elected its officers for the year 2010.

Councillor Virginia Hackson, York Region (Town of East Gwillimbury), was re-elected as chair, and Councillor Bobby Drew, Durham Region (Township of Scugog) was re-elected as vice-chair.

The administrative committee was also reinstated: Virginia Hackson and Bobbie Drew, Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury Councillor John McCallum, Durham Regional Councillor (representing Brock) John Grant, and Barrie citizen representative Eric Bull.

“At this meeting we also celebrated the winning of the prestigious Thiess International Riverprize, an honour we are extremely proud of,” said Virginia Hackson. “The international recognition says to the world that our work is not just making a difference, but that it’s the best of its kind in the world. I’m extremely honoured to be on the executive of an organization of such caliber.” Hackson added, “Moving forward, we will use part of the Riverprize award money to fund a twinning opportunity with an organization in need of skills and knowledge. And we will continue with the strong partnerships that have been so integral to our success.”
