Public Meeting To Guide The Future Of Beaver River Wetland Conservation Area
NEWMARKET September 15 & 21, 2009 - The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) will be holding a public open house to discuss the future of Beaver River Wetland Conservation Area. Over the next year, LSRCA staff will be working with local residents, conservation area users and interested groups to develop a management plan for the Beaver River Wetland Conservation Area.
“Developing a management plan provides an opportunity to enhance visitor experiences, make the property more accessible to the public and develop a vision to take the conservation area into the future,” said Bill Thompson, Conservation Lands Planner, LSRCA. “The open house is an opportunity for the public to have their say in how the area will be managed.”
The public open house will be held on Sunday, September 27th from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Sunderland Co-op located at the corner of Regional Road 10 and Hwy 7/12 in Sunderland. A guided tour of the conservation area will be provided starting at 1:30, with a group discussion of challenges and opportunities the future holds for the conservation area starting at 2:30.
The Beaver River Wetland Conservation Area is located along the Beaver River in Brock Township. Since 1993 the LSRCA has been securing lands within the wetland with the support of Ducks Unlimited Canada, the Nature Conservancy of Canada, Ontario Heritage Trust, the region of Durham and Katherine Symons. The conservation area is now over 800 ac in size and includes Provincially Significant wetland habitat and almost 16 km of abandoned rail line which has been converted into a recreational trail.
