Join the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and Kawartha Conservation at the Kirkfield Lions Hall to learn more about the health of the Talbot River, Whites Creek, Canal and Mitchell Lakes subwatershed and the work being done to protect it.

You will have a chance to ask questions and share your thoughts on the current state of these rivers and lakes and provide ideas to help keep them healthy in the future. We have also created draft recommendations to address issues such as impacts from agricultural runoff, invasive species and aquatic plants.

Please review a copy of the draft plan and provide your comments to Kaitlyn Read (deadline  August 31, 2016). Public comments will be reviewed and incorporated into the final plan, which will be completed later this year (2016).

The Talbot River, Whites Creek, Canal and Mitchell Lakes Subwatershed Plan was initiated in 2013 to maintain and enhance the environmental health and economic sustainability of the subwatershed and surrounding areas.

The plan development was led by a working group to assess the health of the subwatershed, and to prepare a set of recommendations to protect and restore its natural environment. It was a collaborative effort between local municipalities, conservation authorities, provincial and federal governments, lake associations, industry, and stewardship organizations.

This plan is scheduled to be completed in late 2016, followed by an implementation plan.
