Owl Banding Workshops with Nigel Shaw

Cost: $15.00 per person per workshop or $50.00 for a family of four.

Lake Simcoe Conservation Foundation will soon be holding something new, educational and, exciting! -Owl Banding Workshops with Nigel Shaw. The workshops will begin Friday, September 30th and each weekend in October at Scanlon Creek Conservation Area in Bradford West Gwillimbury. There will also be private owl banding sessions available on week nights.

Nigel Shaw has been bird banding for thirty years and is an expert on the subject. To gain access to the farmhouse, please enter at 3281 Yonge, using the same entrance way to the Bark Park. Each workshop will start indoors with an over view to owl banding and then the group will go out to the nets where Nigel will show how owls are caught and demonstrate banding. There is a maximum of ten people per evening (no age limit). Please dress for the weather and bring a flashlight.

We are excited to announce that this fall we will be starting an “Adopt a Bird” Program. When you adopt a banded bird from the Scanlon Creek Conservation Area you will receive a frame ready certificate with a picture of the species. It will feature information on your banded bird like; band number, age, weight, wing length and date banded. Starting at $25.00 with nine different local species to choose from, you will receive a personal update if your bird is caught again at Scanlon Creek. What a great Christmas gift idea!
